The lighting tower is made up of a telescopic pole in aluminium alloy and pneumatic function on which a light generator is mounted.

The column is vented by a 1.1 kW power (1.5 CV) compressor with a 6-litre, steel tank, via a pneumatic switchboard and working lever (ascent, block, descent); gravity controls the descent.

The lights can be pointed in a certain direction by manually rotating the column itself.

The lights are manually inclined, before slipping the column off, allowing ground illumination (lights in horizontal or rest position), upward illumination (lights in the vertical position) or with a series of intermediary inclinations.

There are four projectors, two of which are 400 W metallic iodide projectors, which guarantee white light and are highly efficient; to compensate these projectors’ slower switch-on time, the other two are 1000 W halogen projectors which, while being less efficient, switch on immediately.

The completely slipped off column is 7 metres in height and is wind-resistant up to 70 km/h.

The pole is overturned by a linear actuator, controlled by the switchboard and control panel; should the actuator fail, the lower attachment of the same can be unhooked and the pole overturned manually, as the pole’s support is perfectly balanced compared to its axis.   A series of sensors avoid incorrect manoeuvres, such as the unslipping of the column while its mechanical block is deactivated or the overturning of the pole before it has been fully withdrawn.
